Tema: The Tema Regional Office of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has paid a visit to the Centre of the World Golf Club in Kpone-Katamanso municipality, as part of activities to commemorate the 2025 World Tourism Day. World Tourism Day (WTD) is celebrated annually on September 27, with this year’s theme being ‘Tourism and Sustainable Transformation’.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Isaac Asiam, the Tema Regional Manager of the Ghana Tourism Authority, led the delegation and highlighted the agency’s commitment to enhancing tourism prospects within its operational areas, including the Kpone-Katamanso Municipality. Mr. Asiam noted that the Centre of the World Golf Club is a unique tourism asset that warrants attention and promotion, as it is the only location globally where the Greenwich Meridian Line intersects a golf course.
Mr. Asiam emphasized that this distinctive feature could attract numerous tourists from both Ghana and abroad if adequately developed. He stressed the need for collaboration with businesses, local government, and community leaders to elevate the site as a prime destination. “The Centre of the World Golf Club is a remarkable treasure. It is not just about playing golf; it is about showcasing Ghana as the meeting point of the world. We must give this place the attention it deserves to strengthen our tourism industry and attract investment,” he stated.
He assured the Authority’s dedication to developing innovative strategies to promote tourism sites within the Tema Region, ensuring they contribute significantly to job creation and economic growth. Mr. Asiam also encouraged the community to support the protection and promotion of such tourist attractions, highlighting that sustainable tourism flourishes when locals are actively involved.
The visit is part of a larger agenda by the GTA to spotlight hidden and under-promoted tourist attractions across the country in the lead-up to World Tourism Day. This year’s celebration is expected to unite stakeholders to reflect on tourism’s role in fostering unity, cultural exchange, and sustainable development.
