The media coverage of the recent legislative elections was beset by a total of 13 violations, said the Independent High Authority for Audiovisual Communication (HAICA).
In a report on the media coverage of the legislative elections published Monday, HAICA said these electoral offenses resulted in 3 fines, 4 formal notice decisions and 6 warnings issued to the relevant broadcasters.
The National Television and the Zitouna channel have both been fined 20,000 dinars for violating the electoral silence, according to the media regulator.
The private radio MFM was fined 3,000 dinars for the same offense. In total, two television channels (one public and one private) and 20 radio stations (8 public, 8 private, and 4 community) were affected by the monitoring process of the coverage of the two rounds of the legislative elections.
HAICA’s report, which is published as part of its regulatory responsibilities during the electoral period, is the first following the decision of HAICA on the rules governing media coverage of the campaign for the legislative elections, which was issued on November 16, 2022.
