“Harga” wins Matera Fiction’s First Prize

A Tunisian Television production in 2021, the TV series “Harga” (The Road to Paradise) by director Lassaad Oueslati won the First Prize at the very first edition of the International TV Series Festival “Matera Fiction,” organised on June 1-4 in Matera, southern Italy. In addition to television productions from Latin America, Matera Fiction focused on the Mediterranean, with several countries taking part, including Turkey, Algeria, Morocco, Italy, France and Tunisia. “Harga,” which has been a big hit in Tunisia, has just won an international award at a freshly-launched festival that aspires to become a platform for international TV series from countries where TV series production is already highly developed, and a new destination for the star system just as important as for fiction and feature films. Organised by GFG Media Associates, with the sponsorship of the Region of Basilicata, the Municipality and Province of Matera and in collaboration with Rai Fiction, Mediaset and TV Globo, this first edition crowns Tunisia at the top of the rankings among productions from countries where this kind of series is a thriving industry. Supported by IOM Tunisia, the series has been used by the organisation as part of a wider project to deter irregular migration, thanks to European funding.
