President Kaïs Saïed called, Saturday evening, for a new vision to face the Coronavirus pandemic.
During an emergency meeting held with military and security officials to examine the health situation in the country, the Head of State stressed, according to a statement of the Presidency of the Republic issued at dawn on Sunday, that the national responsibility is not based on political calculations, competition or rivalry, but requires the unification of efforts and measures to be taken in the coming period.
“This emergency meeting is not in competition with any party, but dictated by national responsibility which must prevail over all narrow political or partisan considerations,” he said, stressing that Tunisia “is in a state of war, which requires the unification of efforts and the involvement of people of goodwill,” according to the text of the statement.
During the meeting, a number of proposals were discussed, including the division or classification of endemic areas in descending order and focusing on the most affected areas to limit the spread of the virus.
The President of the Republic stressed that these proposals must be placed in a different framework that takes into account not only scientific aspects but also socio-economic conditions.
The Head of State met last Thursday evening at the headquarters of the Ministry of the Interior with a number of directors-general and executives of the ministry, to monitor the security situation in the country in light of the continued and rapid increase in the number of people infected with COVID-19, recommending that all necessary measures be taken, especially in areas with a high rate of infection, taking into account the socio-economic conditions of citizens.
According to the Ministry of Health, 82 additional deaths and 6,184 additional infections by the coronavirus out of 17,647 tests carried out were recorded on July 2 in Tunisia.
