President of the Republic Kaïs Saïed, on Saturday evening, promulgated a decree on the creation of a provisional Supreme Judicial Council (CSM), which will replace the council that was in place.
The Head of State also received Prime Minister Najla Bouden and Minister of Justice Leila Jaffel, the Presidency said in a statement issued Saturday evening.
The Prime Minister informed the President of the Republic of the outcome of her participation, Friday, in the “One Ocean Summit” in Brest, France.
The meeting also focused on the economic and social situation and the need to meet the challenges after cleaning up all sectors of corruption, and to work to achieve the aspirations of the Tunisian people to freedom and dignity, said the statement.
On the other hand, Kaïs Saïed insisted, during his meeting Saturday evening with the Minister of Justice which took place in the presence of the Prime Minister, on his respect for the independence of the judiciary. He recalled that sovereignty belongs to the people and that the separation of functions aims to ensure a balance between them.
He stressed the importance of cleaning up the country of all causes of corruption, saying this requires the establishment of a fair justice where all are equal before the law.
“Whoever remains silent in the face of injustice becomes an accomplice, which is why the CSM has been dissolved and will be replaced by another provisional council, to put an end to impunity,” he said.
He added that “a fair trial before a fair court is a sacred duty and one of the legitimate claims of Tunisians.”
President Said had announced last week the decision to dissolve the CSM in its current composition, saying a body or a provisional council will manage urgent matters until the establishment of a new Council after revision of the law governing it.
