Health Minister to Register Over 16,000 Residents Under NHIS in Juaboso District

Juaboso: Mr. Kwabena Mintah Ankando, the Member of Parliament for Sefwi Juaboso Constituency and Minister for Health, is set to register more than 16,000 residents in the constituency with the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). This initiative is part of efforts to address the socio-economic and health needs of the constituents.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Ankando announced that the registration exercise is scheduled to take place from July 14 to August 8. The focus will primarily be on the aged, children, and less privileged residents, regardless of their political, ethnic, and religious backgrounds. The Health Minister highlighted that the exercise aims to assist those who cannot afford to register or renew their NHIS cards, ensuring they have access to healthcare services.

The NHIS has provided free healthcare to many individuals, yet there are still residents in the constituency who are not registered or have expired cards. Mr. Ankando emphasized that the NHIS has been expanded under President John Dramani Mahama’s government to cover more medical conditions, making it crucial for people to register.

The upcoming NHIS registration and renewal exercise is a fulfillment of Mr. Ankando’s campaign promise to his constituents. In addition to the NHIS initiative, he is collaborating with the District Chief Executive to implement more development projects and create opportunities for youth engagement in productive economic activities, aiming to reduce unemployment and social issues in the area.
