Sunyani: Mrs Nana Ama Gyankoma Asirifi, the Bono Regional Health Promotion Officer, has appealed to the media to intensify public sensitisation on environmental cleanliness to stem the outbreak of cholera, as the rains set in.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mrs Asirifi commended the Sunyani Municipal Assembly for the clean-up exercise it conducted in the Municipality over the weekend. She urged the sustenance of the exercise in all the 12 politically administrative districts and municipalities in the region. Mrs Asirifi made the appeal during a media engagement in Sunyani, asking the media to provide airtime for the health directorate to sensitise the people to help prevent disease outbreaks.
She emphasized that as the rains begin, it is crucial for people to keep their environment and surroundings clean, avoiding littering and dumping plastic and other solid waste that could choke gutters. Mrs Asirifi noted that although the health directorate picked some samples in 2024, the region did not record any confirmed cases of cholera. She commended stakeholders and urged them to continue their efforts to ensure no cases are reported this year.
Madam Medina Doku, the Bono Regional Environmental Officer, also urged food vendors to observe personal hygiene and ensure they prepare and sell their food in a clean environment to avoid food contamination.
