Health situation in Manouba alarming, requires field hospital (Minister)

The health situation in Manouba is alarming, Minister of Women, Family and Elderly Affairs Imen Zahouani Houimel said at visit to hospitals and COVID-19 wards in the governorate Friday.

The Kassab Institute and the local hospital of Tebourba reached their maximum capacity, amid a surge in the number of coronavirus patients and a flagrant lack of human resources, Houimel told TAP at the end of a meeting of the local committee to combat disasters.

Manouba needs a field hospital, and local authorities are currently working to meet this demand, she said.

Houimel commended the local council’s support for the health system by allocating more than 2 million dinars to refurbish the COVID-19 laboratory and set up a COVID-19 unit.

Citizens must be aware of the necessity to receive vaccines, Houimel noted.

Participants in the meeting stressed the need to install a field hospital, increase the vaccine quotas for the region and initiate vaccination campaigns for people over 50 years without no need for registration on the Evax platform.
