Milan: Several rivers in northern Italy overflowed their banks on Monday following heavy rainfall, resulting in widespread flooding and disruptions. In various municipalities, such as Cabiate, located between Milan and Lake Como, water reached knee-high levels, inundating streets and causing landslides in the region.
According to Ghana News Agency, the severe weather conditions have led to interruptions on several railway lines, including the Como-Chiasso line. Meteorologists are forecasting more rain in the coming days, prompting concerns of further flooding and damage.
Rescue services have been actively deploying helicopters to assist individuals trapped in their homes by the rising waters. More than a dozen holidaymakers had to be rescued from a campsite after being caught off guard by the overnight rainfall. Authorities reported that one woman is currently missing.
The metropolitan area of Milan, the capital of the Lombardy region, has also been impacted, with the Seveso River overflowing its banks. In response, the city council has urged both residents and visitors to exercise caution near the river and advised residents to avoid green spaces and parks.
