Heavy Vehicular Traffic in Sunyani Due to Decades-Old Pipeline Burst

Sunyani: There is heavy vehicular traffic in Sunyani, the Bono regional capital, following the bursting of an underground pipeline of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) in the heart of the city.

According to Ghana News Agency, the pipeline had been underground at the Nana Bosoma Roundabout in the Rex Area for decades and burst around 2200 hours on Monday, August 25, 2025. During a visit to the scene on Tuesday, engineers were observed working on the issue as authorities blocked one side of the main principal street of the capital, contributing to heavy vehicular traffic in the Sunyani Central Business District.

The situation is causing inconvenience for drivers, creating a nuisance in the regional capital. As of the time of filing this report, Mr. Vincent Antwi Agyei, the Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive, had visited the scene and assured residents and drivers that the problem would be fixed soon.
