Sekondi: Mr Joseph Nelson, the Western Regional Minister, has announced that the region has been directly impacted by a tragic helicopter crash. The crash claimed the lives of five state officials and three crew members aboard the GAF Z9 aircraft.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Nelson stated that the region was particularly affected as all three crew members who perished in the crash were stationed at the Takoradi Air Force Base. In an interview in Sekondi, Mr Nelson expressed the profound loss of gallant soldiers whose dedication and service will continue to inspire others.
Mr Nelson remarked on the difficulty and sadness of the situation, acknowledging the unexpected tragedy that befell those serving their nation. He extended condolences to the families of the three deceased officers and offered prayers for their strength and comfort during this challenging time.
The victims included Squadron Leader Peter Anala, Flying Officer Manean Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo, along with five other passengers. Among the passengers were Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence, and Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science and Technology. The group was en route to Obuasi when the fatal crash occurred.
