Tunisia: The 6th High-Level Africa Forum on Women, Peace and Security (WPS) has begun its proceedings at the International Diplomatic Academy in Tunis. The forum, which focuses on '25 Years of UNSCR 1325: Leveraging Multilateral Diplomacy to Reinforce Africa's Women, Peace and Security Agenda in a Shifting Global Order,' serves as a critical platform for evaluating and advancing the rights and empowerment of women and girls across the continent.

According to Agence Tunis Afrique Presse, Minister of Family, Women, Children and the Elderly Asma Jebri, in her opening remarks, emphasized the importance of this two-day event in consolidating achievements over the past two decades while designing innovative strategies to tackle emerging global challenges. She highlighted Tunisia's commitment to Resolution 1325, noting the country's adoption of its first National Action Plan (NAP) from 2018 to 2022, developed through a participatory process with both governmental and civil society involvement.

The Ministry is now in the process of drafting a second NAP, aiming to further engage Tunisian women in security, defence, diplomacy, and other sectors. This plan also focuses on strengthening women's political engagement, building capacities, and establishing mechanisms to promote gender equality and combat gender-based violence.

Jebri stressed that sustainable implementation of Resolution 1325 relies on African solidarity and the sharing of national experiences. The forum aims to bolster political will and partnerships for the next decade of implementation, aligning with the African Union's Agenda 2063. The event is attended by key figures, including Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad Mohamed Ali Nafti, representatives from various African governments, UN Women, the African Union, and experts in women's leadership and youth engagement.
