RABAT: His Majesty King Mohammed VI and French President Emmanuel Macron have jointly presided over a significant signing ceremony in Rabat, marking the formalization of numerous agreements between Morocco and France. The event, held at the Palace of Royal Guests, was attended by several dignitaries, including members of the Moroccan royal family and high-ranking officials from both countries. According to Ghana News Agency, the ceremony saw the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for acquiring high-speed train sets, led by Morocco's National Railways Office (ONCF) and ALSTOM. This agreement will facilitate Morocco's purchase of 12 confirmed and 6 optional high-speed train sets. In the railway sector, a Declaration of Intent on financial cooperation was also signed, highlighting collaboration between Moroccan and French economic ministries. An assistance contract related to project management services for the high-speed rail between Kenitra and Marrakech was established between ONCF and SYSTRA/EG IS. Additionally, ONCF entered into an equipment supply contract with VOSSLOH COGIFER for the high-speed line's switches and crossings. Another MoU involves Morocco's government partnering with SAFRAN to construct an aircraft engine maintenance site. The agreements extended into the energy sector, with a focus on green hydrogen development and strategic energy cooperation. A MoU to create a Morocco-France investment accelerator was also signed, aiming to stimulate sustainable infrastructure investments. Cooperation in civil protection and wildland fire management was reinforced through separate declarations of intent. Other agreements include a Declaration of Intent in education, aiming to enhance cooperation from 2024 to 2026, and in higher education and innovation. A MoU on establishing an African-oriented French-Moroccan Research Center was also signed, focusing on advanced fields like artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. Cultural cooperation was another key area, with agreements to strengthen cul tural ties and support the video game industry in Morocco. The OCP Group signed MoUs on decarbonization and energy transition, and a Joint Development Agreement with ENGIE Company. The ceremony concluded with an agreement between CMA CGM Group and TANGER MED to develop a container terminal at Nador West Med, supporting Morocco's port and logistics projects. The event emphasized the robust and multifaceted partnership between Morocco and France, aimed at fostering economic growth and sustainable development across various sectors.
