Hohoe: Mr. Prosper Kumi, Hohoe Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has revealed that the Assembly has allocated GH?27,398.05 for servicing and repair works on machines under the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP).

According to Ghana News Agency, the DRIP initiative aims to provide Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) with modern machinery and technical training to bolster their road maintenance and construction capabilities. Mr. Kumi, while addressing the media on the ongoing projects and activities, mentioned that upon assuming office, he oversaw the delivery of several DRIP machines, including three concrete mixers, a pail loader, a tipper truck, a water tanker, a motor grader, a roller compactor, and a backhoe loader.

All machines, except for the motor grader, were certified as roadworthy. However, due to increasing complaints from communities about deteriorating roads, urgent servicing was deemed necessary. Consequently, the Assembly contracted JA Plant Pool Ghana Ltd. for the repair and servicing of the motor grader and backhoe loader in July and August 2025. The costs involved GH?19,003.65 for the motor grader's cutting blade replacement and general servicing, GH?5,011.65 for its hydraulic seal replacement, and GH?3,383.20 for servicing the backhoe loader.

Mr. Kumi stated that these machines have since been used to reshape 5.10km of road networks, supported by 56 trips of gravel valued at GH?5,600. Operator allowances for the period from July to September amounted to GH?25,500. Furthermore, GH?14,100 was expended on shaping and gravelling works at the UHAS Campus during the Regional Minister's visit and at the Franco Campus during the COESA Games. Fuel expenses for road shaping from May 14 to September 9, 2025, totaled GH?93,102.88, bringing the overall DRIP expenditure to GH?165,700.

The MCE assured the residents that roads from Wli through Likpe to Hohoe, Hohoe township roads, and the Alavanyo stretch are set to be awarded for construction soon. He emphasized the commitment to improving the inner roads, which would enhance mobility, business, and social interactions.

Mr. Kumi also discussed potential measures to alleviate traffic congestion, such as designating one-way routes to the main station, market, and Hohoe Regional Hospital on specific days. Additionally, under the Big PUSH agenda, contractors are already working on portions of the Eastern Corridor and Fodome roads to improve access to major trading centers in the Volta and Oti regions. The Assembly also plans to retool its Parks and Gardens Department using internally generated funds (IGF) to redevelop parks within the Municipality.
