Households access to IT edges up 20% in 2017

Households access to information and communication technology edged up 20% in 2017, the Ministry of Communication Technologies and Digital Economy said.

The computer ownership rate reached 47.1% and that of access to Internet stood at 44.5% against 39.3% and 37.5%, respectively, in 2016.

The indicators put forward by the ministry also show a 12% rise in the rate of individual internet users.

Home Internet access is the highest with 90%, considering the number of households that have an Internet connection.

Access to Internet from mobile devices increased to reach 78%. Internet users are mainly focused on social networks (89.1%), downloading of films, photos and music (61.8%), downloading of video games (54.2%), communication through internet (47.2%), the use of electronic mail and instant messaging services (45%).

Structure of households access to high-speed internet also saw an upward trend with growing access to internet from mobile networks (88.7%). Frequency of internet use increased; 88% of users report connecting one time each day.

These indicators are based on the employment census carried out by the National Institute of Statistics in Q4 of 2017 which included a chapter on access of households to IT.
