HPR-draft law on repression of attacks against armed forces: Lotfi Brahem open to bill amendment

Minister of the Interior Lotfi Brahem called for the formation of a joint commission representing the Ministries of Defense, Justice, and Interior as well as the Committee on General Legislation of the House of People’s Representatives (HPR), in order to make amendments to the bill on repression of attacks against armed forces.

Speaking to the press after his hearing before the general legislation committee on the bill, the minister said his department remains open to civil society to discuss the draft law.

“We will not withdraw the bill but we will open on the various proposals for its amendment made by the deputies and organisations,” he said.

During his hearing, Lotfi Brahem urged all parties concerned to present legal alternatives to the draft law or to accept a consensus on its current formula, voicing understanding of the apprehensions of the components of civil society on some of its provisions.
