HPR: General Legislation Committee adopts Reconciliation Bill

The Committee on General Legislation at the House of People’s Representatives (HPR) adopted Wednesday the bill on reconciliation in its entirety. It is now limited to the administrative sector.

The report will be discussed on Thursday, according to commission chairman Taieb Madani.

In a statement to TAP, Madani said that the report will be submitted to the HPR bureau after its adoption in committee. The HPR bureau will review it and submit it to a plenary session next Monday.

Madani explained that this bill now concerns civil servants and assimilated officials prosecuted for acts of financial misappropriation and infringement of public finances, specifying that the provisions of this bill will concern the period before January 14, 2011.

He explained that this bill regards persons who had applied the orders of their superiors without drawing any personal or financial interest.

According to him, “it is unacceptable to prosecute, on the one hand, persons who have merely executed the orders of their superiors and to pardon other people for just having recourse to the Truth and Dignity Commission.”
