HPR holds parliamentary day to evaluate efforts exerted and results achieved

The House of Peoples’ Representatives (HPR) organised, Wednesday, for the first time since its election in 2014, a parliamentary day to evaluate its performance, notably the efforts exerted and the results achieved.

According to a presentation note, this day offered the opportunity to open a collective and participatory debate on the HPR’s main thrusts. Focus will be put on strengths and weaknesses and means to remedy them to improve the parliament’s performance.

HPR Speaker Mohamed Ennaceur said to the media before the opening of the behind-closed-doors meeting, that MPs are invited to participate in this evaluation that regards all functions and responsibilities.

This evaluation, he explained, will consider the quality, rapidity and competence of the parliamentary action and the parliament’s role as a representative of people and defender of their interests.

Monitoring the government action, the HPR’s electoral responsibility (election of constitutional authorities), the management of human and material resources and the deputies’ working conditions are also on the meeting’s agenda.

The outcome and recommendations of the meeting will be announced, Thursday at a press conference, Ennaceur said.
