HPR passes bill establishing National Council of Social Dialogue

The House of People’s Representatives (HPR) passed on Tuesday at a plenary session, the bill establishing the National Council of Social Dialogue, with 121 votes in favour, one abstention and no opposition.

The draft law is part of implementing the provisions of the social contract signed on January 14, 2013, which provides for the creation of a national council of social dialogue with headquarters in Tunis.

It is a consultative structure with financial and administrative independence, the budget of which is attached to that of the Social Affairs Ministry.

The council is tasked with managing and organising social dialogue and offer a point of view on economic and social issues. It is consulted about governmental draft laws and decrees related to work, industrial relations, vocational training and social protection.

It can also be consulted on socio-economic issues and development plans and budgets.
