Huni-Valley: Huni-Valley Senior High School in the Prestea Huni-Valley municipality has launched its 50th anniversary under the theme: '50 Years of Excellence in Secondary Education: The Role of Stakeholders'. The event took place at the Hunivass assembly hall, attended by traditional leaders, alumni, staff, students, and corporate institutions.
According to Ghana News Agency, the celebrations will commence with a bonfire on Saturday, November 22, and continue from November 24 to November 30, 2025, featuring a series of activities. During the event, Mr. George Effah, the Western Regional Director of Education, emphasized the importance of parental involvement in education. He urged parents to actively engage in their children's academic journey by monitoring their progress and participating in school meetings.
Mr. Effah highlighted the necessity for parents to provide essential educational tools, such as textbooks and school uniforms, to ensure a solid learning foundation. He noted the importance of financial support and moral encouragement in recognizing and celebrating children's efforts. Additionally, he stressed the role of education in character development, encouraging parents to instill values like respect and responsibility in their children.
He called upon regional chiefs and elders to mobilize community support for school development initiatives, suggesting the enhancement of infrastructure and the establishment of scholarships. He commended the school's management, staff, students, alumni, and stakeholders for their contributions to the institution's success.
Mr. Daniel Kwabena Aidoo, Headmaster of Huni-Valley SHS, noted the school's growth from an initial 90 students in 1975 to its current enrolment of 1,662, supported by 120 staff members. He assured that the anniversary celebrations would be managed to minimize academic disruptions. He encouraged students to follow past alumni's example by supporting the school after graduation.
Nana Dr. Toni Aubynn, Chairperson of the Anniversary Steering Committee, announced plans for a second launch in Kumasi and a national launch in Accra. He revealed the unveiling of the anniversary logo, cloth, and T-shirts, which will be launched online to facilitate access and participation.
Mr. Kofi Arhin, President of the Huni-Valley SHS Old Students Association (HOSA), emphasized the alumni's responsibility to support future leaders and maintain the institution's legacy. He expressed gratitude to former and current teachers and staff for their contributions to the school's operations. Mr. Arhin acknowledged the achievements of alumni as a testament to the institution's lasting impact.
