The hydrometeorological radar set up in Nebbeur in Kef (north-west of Tunisia) to monitor meteorological developments in part of the Medjerda, Melag and Tessa wadis basins (west and north-west of Tunisia), came into service on Tuesday, the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries said.
This X-band meteorological radar aims to provide accurate rainfall measurements to address the dual issue of water resource management and hydrological risk management in the Medjerda watershed.
It was developed by the French company “NOVIMET,” specialised in radar solutions and services in hydrometeorology, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries, the National Institute of Meteorology and the DG Trésor (France).
Minister of Agriculture Mahmoud Elyes Hamza commended on the occasion, the efforts exerted by NOVIMET to set up the first hydrometeorological radar in Tunisia in a bid to modernise the hydrological modelling, flood risk mapping and hydrometeorological forecasting services.
