Identities of Jebel Bireno’s terrorists unveiled

The identities of terrorists killed and arrested in Jebel Bireno’s security operation were unveiled, said spokesman for the judicial counter-terrorism division Sofiene Selliti.

The first is Atef Hannachi, 25, one of the leaders of the Okba Ibn Nafaa Brigade. Twenty-eight wanted notices were issued against him.

Selliti told TAP that contrary to information relayed by certain media and electronic sites, the so called Mourad Chayeb (brother of Lukman Abu Sakhr) is not part of the terrorists killed by the security forces in the operation launched Tuesday night in Jebel Bireno, governorate of Kasserine.

The second terrorist shot down by the units of the National Guard has the Algerian nationality.

The health of the third, injured during the operation, has improved and he is out of danger, added the official. He is Fakhreddine Barhoumi, 24.

He was allegedly involved in several terrorist attacks that claimed lives among security forces and citizens (the Bouchebka attack, the Jebel Kassar mine explosion at el Kef, the murder of a shepherd at el Kef, a mine explosion in Semmama, the Henchir Talla attack …).

National Guard units, on Tuesday, killed two terrorists and seized four Kalashnikovs, 7 magazines, a hand-held grenade, three handmade tasers, ammunition and cell phones.

Selliti spoke of an anticipatory operation prepared for more than a month in co-ordination with the National Counter-Terrorism Unit in the General Directorate of the Aouina National Guard after consultation with the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
