Implementing commitments made by World Bank at “TUNISIA 2020” conference

Means of implementing a series of Tunisian projects to be financed by the World Bank (WB) were at the center of the meeting held Tuesday in Tunis.

These projects include the project of integrated management of rural landscapes in forest areas with an amount of $ 135 million, as well as the economic integration project for the benefit of disadvantaged categories, especially young people, with estimated $ 60 million. A third project concerns the development of exports worth $ 50 million.

These projects mainly aimed at improving the management of available resources, exploiting economic opportunities for rural groups in the northern and western regions, and strengthening job creation opportunities for young people.

These projects also aim at the development of value chains and the strengthening of production systems at the quantitative and qualitative levels. The objective is to ensure new opportunities for marginalised groups in the regions concerned and to enable young unemployed people to create micro-projects.

The meeting was attended by Ministers of Development, Investment and International Cooperation Mohamed Fadhel Abdelkefi, Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries Samir Taieb, Employment Imed Hammami, in addition to the Director of the World Bank Office in Tunis Eileen Murray.

The head of WB reminded that the examination of these projects comes after the International Investment Conference “TUNISIA 2020”, to give a new impetus to the cooperation between Tunisia and the WB.

She also stressed the importance of these projects, which share the same objective, namely the development of marginalised regions and the creation of employment opportunities for young people.

The Ministers stressed that these projects are part of the country’s priorities for this period, including the development of disadvantaged regions and job creation for young people

They stressed the need to establish coordination mechanisms between the various parties involved in these projects, in order to ensure complementarity and effectiveness.
