An individual from Gaafour (governorate of Siliana) was arrested on Wednesday while carrying out illegal excavations for commercial purposes, said a national guard source.

This 37-year-old individual was arrested in possession of a statue, 35 historical coins and 27 ancient foreign currencies.

The archaeological objects were seized and a judicial investigation had been initiated, the same source added.
