INLTP launches National Referral Mechanism for victims of trafficking in persons

The National Authority against Trafficking in Persons (French: INLTP) announced at a regional conference held Wednesday in Tunis the launch of a National Referral Mechanism (NRM) for victims of trafficking in persons in Tunisia.

President of the INLTP Raoudha Laadidi said in he remarks this mechanism is a major achievement, after the development of strategies and action plans.

She spoke about the international conventions related to human rights ratified by Tunisia, such as the Convention against Transnational Organised Crime and the related protocols; Tunisia promulgated law No. 61 in 2016 and approved the conventions of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) related to the fight against human trafficking.

Laabidi reaffirmed the readiness of the Authority to implement this mechanism, which will help identify and refer victims to care services to ensure their protection.

Several countries from the southern Mediterranean region and sub-Saharan Africa as well as a number of European countries are taking part in this two-day event.

This regional conference is organised with the support of the Council of Europe, in cooperation with Switzerland and Norway and a number of state institutions and civil society organisations. Participants will discuss several topics, including the different stages of preparation of this mechanism, the fight against trafficking in persons, the protection of victims’ personal data and ways of raising awareness in this area.
