The National Authority for the Prevention of Torture (INPT) called in its monthly report published Wednesday to amend the law organising the Administrative Court «in view of the difficult climate of rights and freedoms in Tunisia.»
It urges setting up a «specialised jurisdiction in cases involving rights and freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution.»
The Authority recommends establishing emergency jurisdictions dedicated to suspended sentence cases as well as stripping the president of the Administrative Court of this prerogative.
The report states that dozens of people have been placed under house arrest on suspicion of terrorism or threat to national security, including former ministers and presidents of national authorities.
It also condemned the travel bans imposed on individuals based on S-17, which it describes as «arbitrary» and «unjustified.»
The INPT warned against trying civilians before military courts and against «restrictions» on the right to demonstrate through setting up barriers and abusive identity checks.
