The Ministry of Family, Women, Children and the Elderly reaffirmed utmost commitment to continue to support and defend the rights of rural women and girls and to further empower them.
In a press release issued on the occasion of the International Day of Rural Women, observed on October 15 each year, under the theme: «Rural Women Cultivating Good Food for All,» the ministry pointed out willingness to enhance the role of rural women and girls who have shown, during the coronavirus pandemic crisis, “awareness, responsibility and commitment.” The Ministry stressed the need to continue implementing the guidelines of the national strategy for the economic and social empowerment of rural women and girls and to begin evaluating its action programme with all stakeholders, in order to identify the main difficulties and seek to overcome them through the adoption of short- and medium-term action plans capable of meeting the requirements of the stage, particularly in light of the after-effects of the COVID-19 crisis.
The ministry indicated that the observance of the International Day of Rural Women is an opportunity to pay tribute to the important role played by rural women and girls in ensuring food security in Tunisia and to recognize their contribution to improving the capacity to adapt to climate change.
