Investigation against 43 defendants, warrant of imprisonment against Borhene Boulaabi

An investigation was conducted by the public prosecutor against 43 defendants in the case of terrorist Borhene Boulaabi, 12 in custody, 5 in appearance and 26 at large, Spokesman for the Prosecutor at the Anti-Terror Judicial Pole Sofiene Selliti told TAP on Monday.

“After the capture of dangerous terrorist Borhene Boulaabi on January 6 the military justice has lost the case for the judicial pole of fight against terrorism and the public prosecutor authorised to transfer the report to the national terrorist crimes search unit in Laouina, “he said.

He added that after investigation, the case was transferred to the public prosecutor’s office, which authorised the opening of an investigation against 43 defendants “for murder, damage to public and private property, vital resources and public infrastructure, intention to perpetrate and prepare a crime against a person “.

The spokesman said that the investigating judge of the pole issued a warrant of incarceration against Borhene Boulaabi “considered as one of the most dangerous terrorists who joined the terrorist groups positioned in the mountains of Kasserine in 2013 and is part of the “Caliphate soldiers” brigade affiliated to Daesh.

“The investigations also confirmed the involvement of this dangerous element in several terrorist operations, including an attack on a national army patrol in Mghila on April 7, 2015 that killed five soldiers and wounded four others and another deadly operation against another soldier during the search operation launched the same month “.

According to Selliti, Borhene Boulaabi also took part in beheading shepherd Mabrouk Soltani in 2016 and his brother Khalifa Soltani in 2017, as well as the assassination of soldier Said Ghozlani on November 7, 2016 and the appropriation of the local people’s food that he was terrorizing.

The terrorist is focus of 21 search warrants issued by terrorist crime research units and arrest warrants issued by magistrates from the anti-terrorism fight centre.

Boulaabi was captured by military units after being wounded in an ambush on Mount Salloum in Kasserine governorate, the defense ministry said in a statement released on Saturday (January 6).

“A military unit targeted an armed group before capturing the dangerous terrorist (wounded) and abandoned by his comrades,” the statement said. A Kalashnikov assault rifle and a magazine with 20 cartridges were also seized.

The ministry said that Borhene Boulaabi, born on May 24, 1991 in Kasserine, is “one of the most dangerous terrorists belonging to the group Jound Al Khilafa (soldiers of the Caliphate)” who directs the brigade djebal Mghila, a mountain located between the governorate of Kasserine and Sidi Bouzid.
