Investigation against Elyes Fakhfakh closed

The indictment chamber of the Tunis Court of Appeal specialised in financial corruption closed the investigation initiated against former prime minister Elyes Fakhfakh, spokesperson Habib Torkhani told TAP on Thursday.

Fakhfakh is accused of illicit enrichment, declaring property falsely and failure to have a third party manage his property within the statutory deadline.

The Public Prosecutor at the Court of Appeal is examining the case and considering an appeal within legal time limits, that is four days from the date of delivery of the judgment, Torkhani added.

Elyes Fakhfakh was nominated on January 20 to form a government. His cabinet won a parliamentary vote of confidence on February 27 but he stepped down on July 15, 2020 amid an unprecedented crisis.
