IRADA officially launched

(TAP)- The official launch of The IRADA Regional Support Initiative to Sustainable Economic Development, was announced on Friday in Tunis.

The initiative, funded by a European Union donation worth Euros 32 Million (about 95 Million Dinars MD), will benefit 8 Tunisian governorates, namely Jendouba, Sidi Bouzid, Kasserine, Gafsa, Medenine, Sfax, Gabes and Bizerte.

It seeks to increase the private sector’s contribution to the sustainable economic development of targeted regions, improve the quality of vocational training and employment assistance services, sustain the participation of regional actors to the private sector development and vocational training governance.

As regards the private sector’s development, the initiative’s main intervention fields consist in devising action plans, conducting studies on regional economic sectors, reinforcing the value chains and promoting the public/private dialogue.

As for vocational training, it wil help identify needs in regional economic fabric and favour a decentralised governance of the vocational training system.

The initiative was executed at the central level, through a programme management unit (UGP) attached to the Development, Investment and International Co-operation Ministry and a steering committee including representatives of the private sector, the administration and the civil society.

At the regional level, 8 UGP branches were set up and 8 public-private dialogue platforms made up of the main representatives of the private sector, the administration and the civil society.

Lamia ben Mime, Chief of Staff in the Ministry of Development, Investment and International Co-operation, said that “this initiative will end by 2019, but can be renewed for 2 additional years. It embodies will to forge ahead on the path of decentralisation, in spite of the current difficulties.

For her part, Head of Co-operation at the European Union Delegation to Tunisia Sophie Vanhaeverbeke pointed out “the possibility to build bridges and interactions between the IRADA programme and other ones aimed to develop the various value chains.
