Tehran: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan engaged in a telephone conversation on Monday to discuss issues related to the ongoing diplomatic process between Tehran and Washington, as well as the latest regional developments, as announced by Iran's Foreign Ministry.
According to Anadolu Agency, the ministry reported that the two foreign ministers exchanged views on regional issues and the current diplomatic efforts. Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei stated earlier on Monday that negotiations with the United States are ongoing with the involvement of Pakistani mediation.
The conversation between the two ministers comes amid heightened regional tensions following US and Israeli strikes against Iran in February. In response, Tehran launched retaliatory strikes targeting Israel and US allies in the Gulf, and also closed the Strait of Hormuz.
A ceasefire was initiated on April 8 through Pakistani mediation, yet discussions held in Islamabad have not led to a sustainable agreement. US President Donald Trump subsequently extended the ceasefire indefinitely, maintaining a temporary halt to hostilities.
