Iraq Reaffirms Commitment to Prevent Use of Territory for Regional Attacks

Baghdad: Iraq will not allow its territory to become a passageway or launchpad for attacks against other countries, a military spokesman said Sunday. Speaking to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Sabah al-Numan, a spokesperson for the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, emphasized that Baghdad's policy is focused on avoiding regional and international conflicts to maintain domestic stability.

According to Anadolu Agency, al-Numan highlighted that restricting weapons to state control is a key pillar of the government's security strategy. This measure is seen as essential for ending armed activities that fall outside the legal framework. Al-Numan also underlined Iraq's commitment to preventing foreign interference in its internal affairs, aiming to shield the country from the security and political consequences of regional crises.

Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi reinforced this stance last Thursday, pledging to place all weapons under state control. This commitment is part of a broader reform program initiated after Al-Zaidi secured confidence from the parliament.
