Iraqi Embassy in Kabul attacked by IS militants

The Iraqi Embassy in Kabul was targeted on Monday by Islamic state (IS) militants with a suicide bomber blowing himself up outside the gates, followed by three gunmen who stormed into the building.

The Interior Ministry said in a statement that three attackers were killed by security forces after a gunfight that lasted almost four hours.

Interior Ministry spokesman Najib Danish said only one policeman was wounded and that there were no fatalities among the security forces or civilians. No embassy staff members were hurt in the attack. The security forces rescued the ambassador, deputy ambassador and other staff and took them to a safe place, the miniter added.

However, the IS said its fighters had killed seven guards.
