Coast Guard units in Mahdia, on Saturday evening, fished out 8 migrant bodies and rescued 11 others from sub-Saharan African countries, after the shipwreck of their boats during an irregular crossing to the Italian coasts, official spokesman for the National Guard General Directorate Houssem Eddine Jbabli said Sunday.
19 bodies were recovered by a Tunisian fishing boat 36 miles off the Tunisian coast after their boat sank, in addition to the recovery of two other bodies on the coast of Sfax by two fishing boats in two separate operations, Jbabli indicated, adding that a Coast Guard source affirmed that the boat carrying irregular migrants had left from the coast of the city of Jebeniana (Sfax governorate).
The necessary legal procedures were taken in coordination with the Public Prosecutor’s Office, he underlined.
