ISIE: draw to renew one-third of council members next Thursday

The second-third draw of council members of the Independent High Authority for the Elections (ISIE) will take place next Thursday at ISIE headquarters.

“The draw will involve six ISIE members, including three from the old composition and three from the new one,” Adel Brinsi, ISIE council member said at the end of the council’s meeting on Tuesday.

This will be done in accordance with the advisory opinion of the Administrative Tribunal, he said.

“The president of ISIE will be excluded from the draw, in accordance with the provisions of the law,” said Brinsi who stressed that this decision will not risk creating conflicts between members of the authority.

In addition, Brinsi said the date of March 25, 2018 was kept for the organisation of municipal elections, noting that the meeting has established the calendar of municipal polls that will soon be published in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Tunisia.

Heard Monday by the Parliamentary Internal Regulation and Immunity Committee, new president of ISIE, Mohamed Tlili Mansri had said the issue of renewal of one-third of the ISIE members has created an uncomfortable situation within the ISIE.

He said old members of ISIE request considering the filling of vacancies in the authority as a renewal of the third of the ISIE members, while the new members demand the departure of the old members as part of an automatic renewal.
