Issam Chebbi: Civil Coalition will participate in municipal elections in more than 100 constituencies

The Civil Coalition will participate in municipal elections in joint lists in more than 100 constituencies, Secretary-General of Al-Joumhouri Issam Chebbi said Tuesday.

The Civil Coalition officially announced last week its participation in the next municipal elections in only 48 constituencies.

In a statement to TAP, Chebbi pointed out that the Civil Coalition is composed of civil society organizations, independent personalities and 11 political parties.

He said the Coalition has received requests from several politicians (independents and belonging to the Civil Coalition) in more than 50 constituencies to form candidate lists bearing the name of the Coalition.

“The coalition’s main goal is to create a vector of unity for cities, regions and municipalities and to avoid the dispersion of votes in elections,” he said.

A few days earlier, Chebbi had told TAP that “the Coalition has set up a technical committee to define the criteria according to which the candidates will be chosen”.

The signatory parties of the Civil Coalition’s declaration are “Afek Tounes”, “Al Badil-Ettounsi”, “Machrou Tounes”, Tunisia First, “Al-Joumhouri”, “Al-Moustaqbal” (the Future) , “Al-Massar”, the Patriotic and Democratic Labour Party, The Al Likaa party, the Democratic Movement and “Al-Moubadara”.
