Italy: Green Med Exhibition Highlights Moroccan Model in Water Management

“The Kingdom has adopted an effective and forward-looking policy for optimal management of water resources, initiated by the late HM Hassan II and continued by HM King Mohammed VI,” said Moroccan Ambassador to Italy Youssef Balla, who spoke at the closing ceremony.

This policy is based on good governance of water resources, the establishment of integrated management plans, the creation of strong and committed institutions and the development of qualified human resources, said the Moroccan diplomat.

In this regard, he welcomed the undeniable achievements accumulated by the Kingdom in this field, including the mobilization of surface water for irrigation and drinking water supply.

For his part, the Secretary General of the Agency of the hydraulic basin of Souss Massa (ABHSM), Abdelhamid Aslikh, said that the country pays particular attention to the water sector, placed at the center of economic policy concerns because of its role in water security.

In this context, “Morocco has long engaged a dynamic policy to provide the country with a major water infrastructure, improve access to drinking water, meet the needs of industry and tourism and the development of irrigation on a large scale,” said the Moroccan official.

Aslikh further indicated that the Kingdom has succeeded in building an efficient model of water management, specific to the country and cited as an example internationally.
