IVD: cases of victims of violations to be transferred to specialised courts next March

The Truth and Dignity Commission (French :IVD) will transfer, as of next March, the cases containing the most serious human rights violations to the specialised judicial chambers, Mohamed Ben Salem, vice-president of the Commission said on Monday.

“This action comes under Article 8 of the Transitional Justice Act,” Ben Salem said, adding that the effort will focus on prosecuting senior officials involved in numerous human rights violations, committed between 1955 and 2013.

“The IVD pledges to submit to the specialised courts cases containing irrefutable evidence of conviction,” Ben Salem said.

The representatives of the Justice Ministry and the Higher Council of the Judiciary (HCJ) stressed at a hearing before the parliamentary of the committee of the martyrs and wounded of the revolution, the implementation of the law of the general amnesty and transitional justice Monday that specialised criminal courts for transitional justice are ready to receive the cases of victims of human rights violations, but have not received any case from IVD.
