IVD has not yet decided on Siliana events hearing (statement)

The Board of the Truth and Dignity Commission (French: IVD) has not yet decided on the date of the public hearing to be devoted to the Siliana event, the Commission said on Monday.

The events in Siliana date back to 2012, when the police used buckshot to disperse protesters demanding jobs and the departure of the governor.

In the same statement, the IVD states that the events in Siliana are part of 18 cases already decided by the Commission following complaints filed by the victims.

The IVD recalled that the meetings of its Board remain confidential and subject to the principles of professional secrecy in accordance with the provisions of Article 31 of the organic law on the establishment of transitional justice and Article 69 of the rules of procedure of the Commission.

The IVD also called for prioritising the transitional justice process, far from any instrumentalisation.

Furthermore, the commission expressed its openness to the various media, reaffirming its commitment to provide the necessary explanations within the framework of respect for professional secrecy.

Four members of the Dignity and Truth Commission had rejected, on August 15, the decision to terminate the secondment sent chairperson of IVD Sihem Ben Sedrine to the president of the emergency unit and member of the Disciplinary Board without consulting the Commission’s Board.

The next day, the Truth and Dignity Commission had explained that the decision to terminate the secondment of an official was a purely administrative measure and was subject to the provisions in force and to the internal rules of procedure.
