JadaL Captivates Arab Youth at Carthage Music Festival

Carthage:The independent Jordanian rock band JadaL captivated a large audience at the 11th edition of the Carthage Music Festival, reflecting the strong appeal of alternative music among Arab youth. The band, known for blending Western rock with oriental rhythms in the Jordanian dialect, performed two consecutive sold-out concerts.

According to Agence Tunis Afrique Presse, the festival organizers scheduled a second performance due to numerous social media requests, highlighting the intense interest from the band's fans. JadaL's connection with Tunisia was strengthened after their participation in the 2023 festival, leading to a live album release in 2024.

In an interview, JadaL's founder Mahmoud Radaideh, who performed as a quartet at the Opera Theatre at the City of Culture, expressed gratitude to the Tunisian audience and a desire to perform at other notable stages, such as the Carthage International Festival. Founded in 2003, JadaL has pioneered Arabic-language rock, offering a space for young people to resonate with their experiences and questions.

JadaL's unique identity stems from rejecting conventional rhythms while maintaining vocals in the Jordanian dialect, aiming to bring local culture to the international stage. Their debut album, Arabic Rocks, released in 2009, featured a rock cover of "Ana kol ma gool ettouba" by Abdel Halim Hafez, launching the "Arabic rock" movement.

The band has since released four additional studio albums, including El Makina in 2012, Malyoun in 2016, and La Tlou' El Daw in 2021, with their latest EP, Hami Barid, released in early 2025. Despite their long career, Radaideh believes the band remains in a crucial dissemination phase, focused on their artistic philosophy rather than financial gain.
