Jalila Ben Khelil judges “very difficult” epidemic situation in Tunisia

Spokeswoman of the scientific committee for the fight against the coronavirus judged on Sunday “very difficult” the epidemic situation in the country, adding that the rate of positivity of the tests is “high” insofar as it ranges between 30 and 50% in the various regions of the Republic.

“Tunisia has not experienced such a situation since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020,” she added during a virtual meeting organised by the Carthage Association for Health and the Network of Young Tunisian Doctors.

According to the spokeswoman of the scientific committee, the number of patients who flock to emergency services is clearly increasing and the majority of resuscitation and oxygen beds are occupied.

Ben Khelil reported a “total slackening”, citing a lack of respect for barrier gestures, social distancing, and the wearing of masks when travelling.

“The responsibility is shared”, the spokeswoman for the scientific committee for the fight against the coronavirus stressed, accusing the authorities of failing in their control mission.

According to the latest report provided by the Ministry of Health, 82 additional deaths and 6,184 new infections by the coronavirus out of 17,647 tests carried out were recorded on 2 July.

The total number of deaths since the outbreak of the epidemic in Tunisia in March 2020 reached 15,261 deaths.
