Japan revises travel advice to Tunisia

Japanese authorities decided to revise the travel advice to Tunisia, transferring several areas from level 2 to level 1.

According to the Foreign Ministry, this revision concerns the regions of Greater Tunis and the governorates of Bizerte, Nabeul, Beja, Zaghwan, Siliana, Kairwan, Sousse, Monastir, Mahdia, Sfax, Gabes, Medenine and the island of Djerba in addition to some regions of the governorates of Tozeur and Kebili.

The Japanese authorities explain this decision by the clear improvement of the security situation in Tunisia.

They commended on the occasion, the strategy followed by Tunisia in combating terrorism.

The revision of the travel instructions to Tunisia was at heart of the official visit paid by Foreign Minister Khemaies Jhinawi to Tokyo, last November, at the invitation of his Japanese counterpart.

The Tunisian authorities are continuing their work with the Japanese government to extend the lifting of the travel ban to include the southern governorates, including Tozeur and Tataouine, preferred destinations for Japanese tourists.
