Japan willing to help Tunisia quell COVID-19 pandemic

Prime Minister Hichem Mechichi met Wednesday with Japan’s ambassador to Tunisia Shinsuke Shimizu.

The diplomat said his country is ready to offer Tunisia direct assistance in its fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. Japan is also determined to support Tunisia in its negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), he said.

Mechichi praised Japan for its continuous support to Tunisia, particularly during the pandemic, and commended Japan’s role in the fight against COVID-19, “especially since it is the main donor of the COVAX initiative with about one billion dollars,” the Prime Ministry said in a press release.

Mechichi and Shinsuke Shimizu. highlighted the historic relations binding the two countries and underlined the importance of scaling them up in the service of the two peoples.
