Jendouba: 955 hectares of forests destroyed by fires

The areas of forests ravaged by fires that broke out during the past week in the governorate of Jendouba have reached about 955 ha spread over six delegations, according to a preliminary report by the General Directorate of Forests at the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries.

The damaged forest areas are divided between Ain Drahem (840 ha), Tabarka (40 ha), Balta Bououane (34 ha), Jendouba North (30 ha), Ghardimaou (9 ha) and Fernana (3), without considering the spaces destroyed by fires in the last three days, the same source said.

A senior official at the regional agricultural development office in Jendouba said the reforestation of oak and beech trees that went up in smoke requires at least thirty years.
