Jerandi congratulates Guterres on his re-election as UN Secretary General

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad Othman Jerandi, on Monday, congratulated United Nations’ Secretary General António Guterres on his re-election as head of the organisation for a second term.
Jerandi praised Guterres’s “strong commitment to multilateral work as an active mechanism for achieving international peace and security,” said a statement by the Ministry.
He reaffirmed Tunisia’s commitment to continue working alongside the UN organisation to address the main international challenges, citing armed conflict, the COVID-19 crisis, climate change and development issues.
The UN General Assembly, on Friday, re-elected Guterres for a second five-year term.
Taking the oath of office on Friday in New York before the UN General Assembly, Guterres said: “ I will give it my all to ensure the blossoming of trust between and among nations, large and small, to build bridges and to engage relentlessly in confidence building.”
Guterres’ second term in office begins in January 2022.
