Foreign Minister Othman Jerandi and his French opposite number Jean-Yves Le Drian underlined the importance of monitoring closely the implementation of four roadmaps produced by the third session of the Tunisian-French High Cooperation Council presently held in Tunis.
These roadmaps are mainly related to cooperation in economic and social development, justice, defence, security, education, higher education, vocational training and culture, in addition to agreements and memoranda of understanding.
The invitation extended to Tunisia to participate in the Generation Equality Forum due to be held late June in Paris also took centre stage as the two ministers had a talk on Wednesday evening. Collaboration to bolster women’s rights and fight all forms of violence was on the agenda, the Foreign Ministry said.
The talk also focused on preparations for the Djerba Francophonie Summit set for November 20-21.
Moreover, Jerandi and Le Drian hailed the level of consultations and coordination on regional and international issues of common interest and reiterated support for the political process in Libya.
The state of affairs in Africa was looked at. The need to step up efforts to speed up the dispatch of COVID-19 vaccines through Covax mechanism was emphasised.
The meeting offered the opportunity to hail the long-standing and deep ties binding Tunisia and France and lay emphasis on the importance of enhancing cooperation and hoisting it to the level of the privileged strategic partnership in the various promising sectors.
The ultimate goal, the ministers said, is to stimulate the pace of growth, promote investment and job creation and take up socio-economic challenges caused by the pandemic.
