The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad Othman Jerandi on Friday had a talk with his Nigerian counterpart Hassoumi Massaoudou, on the fringes of his participation in the high-level General Debate of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly, September 20-27.
Bilateral relations as well and ways foster them in all fields were at heart of the meeting, reads a Foreign Ministry press release on Saturday.
Jerandi proposed in this regard, to hold the Tunisian-Nigerian joint commission before the end of 2021.
The Nigerian FM welcomed this proposal, pointing out that his country will take part in the 18th Francophonie Summit to be hosted by Djerba on November 20-21.
Besides, the meeting offered the opportunity to review the latest developments at the regional and international levels, especially in Libya.
Jerandi reiterated Tunisia’s commitment to stand by the brotherly Libyan people and to contribute to a comprehensive settlement of the crisis in order to restore security and stability in the country.
The two ministers discussed the situation in the Sahel region, laying emphasis on the need to join regional and international efforts to counter terrorist threats facing the region and the whole African continent.
