Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad Othmane Jerandi received, on Wednesday, Special Adviser to the UN Secretary-General on Libya, Stephanie Williams.
The meeting focused on the situation in Libya and the evolution of the political process in the country, said a Foreign Ministry statement.
Emphasis was placed on the importance of supporting peace and stability in Libya to enable it to regain its place and role in the region, the source added.
The meeting was an opportunity to review the efforts made by the UN mission to continue the political process in coordination and consultation with the various Libyan parties.
On this occasion, Jerandi reaffirmed Tunisia’s constant support to Libya, stressing that “peace and stability of this brotherly country, as well as its territorial unity, are a fundamental issue for Tunisia”.
He insisted on the support of President of the Republic Kaïs Saïed to the actions allowing to overcome the current situation through an inter-Libyan dialogue which places the interest of the country above any consideration.
“Tunisia believes in the capacity of Libyans to reach the necessary consensus to ensure the best conditions for success in the upcoming political elections,” he said.
The Foreign Minister also stressed the important role of neighbouring countries, the African Union and the UN in supporting Libya in its political process to achieve a lasting solution in this sister country.
Williams welcomed Tunisia’s major role in bringing the various Libyan parties closer together, praising President Said’s support for the UN mission in Libya.
