Jhinaoui in Algiers: Tunisia’s participation in 5 + 5 Dialogue opportunity to discuss key issues in region

Minister of Foreign Affairs Khemaies Jhinaoui stressed on Sunday in Algiers the importance of the 5 + 5 Dialogue meeting, which provides an opportunity for exchanges on issues related to the economy, security and politics in the region.

On the sidelines of the 5 + 5 ministerial conference, which started on Sunday, Jhinaoui said, in a statement to TAP, that Tunisia will focus on youth as a strategic component, highlighting the need to sensitise all European and Maghreb stakeholders and partners to the importance of youth as a major actor in political life.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs has called for responding to the aspirations of young people to provide them with employment and training opportunities, while facilitating their mobility in the Maghreb and European areas through granting scholarships and grants.

Besides, Jhinaoui raised the issue of terrorism and the danger it represents.

This issue will be at the heart of this 5 + 5 Dialogue, he said, adding Tunisia will present, on the occasion, its approach and the measures it undertakes to fight against terrorism and especially extremism.

Emphasis will also be placed on support for education and the role of women in countering extremist thinking.

Referring to the economic component, Jhinaoui said Tunisia attaches great importance to investment, especially in youth, adding that the Foreign Ministers of Dialogue 5 + 5 will discuss investment and opportunities to promote bilateral cooperation while focusing on networking in the Mediterranean shore.

Regarding Libya, the Minister highlighted the strategic role played by Tunisia to help the Libyan brothers to find a consensual and political solution, recalling that the Tunisian side has discussed with all Libyan parties without distinction of any kind and refuses any foreign interference in this issue.

These last two points are the very essence of the Tunisian initiative whose clauses were set out in the Tunis Declaration for a comprehensive political settlement in Libya.

The work of the 14th Conference of Foreign Ministers of the 5 + 5 Dialogue started Sunday in Algiers, under the theme ” Western Mediterranean: consolidation of overall, shared and sustainable socio-economic development to meet the region’s common challenges

The meeting co-chaired by Algerian Foreign Minister Abdelkader Messahel and his French counterpart, Jean-Yves Le Drian, brings together the foreign ministers of the 5 + 5 Dialogue Countries of the Western Mediterranean.
