Jinane Medjerda feasibility study contract inked

A contract to conduct a feasibility study of a competitive hub project in Oued Zarga was signed Friday at the seat of the Governorate of Beja by Jinane Medjerda company and a firm of engineering consultants. The cost of the study that will be funded by the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development (AFESD) stands at 1.6 MTD.

This megaproject is expected to generate 24, 000 jobs with investments amounting to 2 billion dinars: 50% financed by the private sector and the remainder being split between the Deposits And Consignments Fund and the Regional Council.

The study will be carried out in 2017 pending the achievement of the project in 2018. Some of the project components will come into operation within five years, namely an agriculture and green energy production hub, while other components (shopping and tourist centre, university town) will take ten to twenty years.

The project will extend over 900 ha of state lands; the village of Oued Zarga was picked given its proximity to the railway line, the highway, the natural gas network, Sidi Salem dam, Tunis and Algeria and in view of its natural landscape, said CEO of Jinane Medjerda Belgacem Mezni. The project will attract 30,000 new residents, including 10,000 students.
